Man charged with breaking into NC schools, stealing from snack machines

WENTWORTH, N.C. (WNCN) – A man wanted in connection with break-ins and thefts at two Rockingham County schools has been taken into custody.

Jeremy Lee Mabe, 39, of Stoneville, was arrested Wednesday following a Jan. 18 incident at McMichael High School in Mayodan and a Jan. 17 incident at Huntsville Elementary School in Madison.

Mabe also was charged in connection with a Jan. 16 break-in at the House of Starts on Highway 220 in Madison.

Snack machines and various doors were damaged during the break-ins, and an undisclosed amount of money and loose change was stolen, Rockingham County deputies said. A school supply machine also was damaged at McMichael, deputies said.

Mabe was held under a $50,000 secured bond in the Rockingham County Jail pending a Feb. 15 court appearance.
