WILMINGTON, N.C. (WECT) – A man and his girlfriend have been arrested in connection to the murders of his mother and a friend in a double homicide in 2014.
The Columbus County Sheriff’s Office charged Justin Reynolds and Meghan Haynes on Wednesday in connection to the murders of Jeanette Thut and Donna Gore.
Reynolds, who is Gore’s son, and Haynes both face two counts of murder.
According to officials, Reynolds and Haynes were in a relationship at the time of the homicides.
District Attorney Jon David and Columbus County Sheriff Lewis Hatcher will address the media at 11 a.m. at the Columbus County Courthouse.
Reynolds, 27, of Nakina, was served at the Columbus County Law Enforcement Center where he was being held on unrelated charges.
Haynes, 27, of Tabor City, was taken into custody at her residence without incident, according to officials.
Investigators found the bodies of Thut and Gore in a storage building behind Thut’s house on Blacksmith Road in Bolton on Nov. 3, 2014. They were following up to a missing persons report filed for Thut, who had not been seen by family members in more than a week.
