If you’re a Panther fan you’ve probably heard the phrase Keep Pounding, but do you know where it comes from?
Sam Mills Jr, a 5 foot 9 linebacker and 5 time Pro Bowler for the Carolina Panthers was continually overlooked before his NFL career because of his size. He found great success with the Panthers during their inception season. He went on to become an assistant coach for the team.
During the road to the Panthers first Super Bowl in 2004, Mills battled terminal cancer. He chose to continue coaching through the illness.
During the NFL Wildcard game against the Cowboys, Mills spoke to the team and told them to “keep pounding,” and the phrase has been attached to the team ever since.
