SPARTANBURG, S.C. (WSPA) — A distracted driver crashed her pickup truck into a utility pole Wednesday afternoon in Spartanburg, police said.
Officers say the woman was driving along Camelot Drive and was looking down at her phone. An electric company truck, which was hauling a power pole, slowed down in front of her near Reidville Road, according to police.
The woman’s truck hit the pole which went diagonally through the windshield and came out of a back seat window of the pickup.
The driver was taken to the hospital with a small gash to her head but is expected to be okay.
Police say if the pole had been a foot closer to the driver, it would have been a lot worse.
A viewer sent the picture of the truck with the pole through the windshield to WSPA, which is a sister station of WNCN.
