Taxi driver shot to death at Raleigh apartment complex

RALEIGH, N.C. (WNCN) – An on-duty taxi driver was murdered at an apartment complex Monday morning, Raleigh Police said.

Police responded to a shooting call at Hodges Creek Apartments in the 2000 block of Hodge Creek Drive at approximately 1:25 a.m. Upon arrival, officers found a man identified as Jose Nicolas Dominguez, 55, of Raleigh, dead at the scene.

Dominguez was a driver for Amigo Taxi. A dispatcher for Amigo said Dominguez was called to the complex to pick someone up when he was killed.

Another driver for the company told WNCN Dominguez had been driving a taxi in Raleigh for several years and the area is regarded as usually being safe.

“I never have heard anything [bad] about these apartments…I have been here many times with no problems,” said Joaquin Loyola.

A 911 call released on Monday afternoon was from a person who drove a car into the parking lot, heard a “pop” and then saw the taxi driver lying on the ground motionless.  The 911 caller provided no other details.

Police said that the preliminary investigation indicates multiple suspects were involved in the crime. Police don’t have personal descriptive information regarding the suspects, but they did say the suspects are believed to have fled the scene in a white car.
