FAYETTEVILLE, N.C. (WNCN) — Police have charged a 23-year-old man in the shooting death of of a man whose body was found near a road in Fayetteville on Tuesday afternoon.
At about 1:30 p.m., officers with the Fayetteville Police Department responded to Meharry Drive near Shaw Mill Road in reference to a report of a body being located in the woods just off the road, Fayetteville Police said in a press release.
Hanee Heron Byrd, 37, of the 300 block of Hawthorne Drive, was found dead. An autopsy performed on Byrd revealed he was shot to death.
Police are searching for Damien Scott Boyd, 23, of the 1000 block of Vesper Lane, in connection with the shooting. Boyd has been charged with first-degree murder and robbery with a deadly weapon.
Detectives believe Boyd may be driving a black 2012 Ford Focus with North Carolina license plate BLR-2895.
