Clayton man shot in face, stomach during dispute Saturday morning

Timothy Driver has been charged with assault with a deadly weapon inflicting serious injuries, possession of a firearm by a felon, and alter/remove gun serial number.

CLAYTON, N.C. (WNCN) – One man was shot in the face and stomach and another is in custody after an argument in a Clayton home led to a shooting Saturday morning, town officials said.

The shooting occurred just after midnight at a home located at 905 East Joyner St. Both the suspect and victim lived together.

When officers arrived on scene at the home, Brandon Pleasants, 33, told Clayton Police that his mother’s boyfriend, Timothy Carroll Driver, 58, had shot him in the face.

While being transported to the hospital, Johnston County EMS crews discovered that Pleasants had also been shot in the stomach. He was rushed into surgery and is expected to survive, Clayton officials said.

Clayton Police officers, along with Johnston County sheriff’s deputies, arrested Driver shortly after the shooting about a block away from the home.

Driver has been charged with assault with a deadly weapon inflicting serious injuries, possession of a firearm by a felon, and alter/remove gun serial number. He is being held in the Johnston County Detention Center on an $80,000.00 secured bond.

Officials said that Pleasants lives with his mother and Driver at the home on Joyner Street. His two young children also live with him the home and both were home at the time of the shooting, but were not harmed.

The argument was a domestic dispute, but police don’t have the exact details at this time.
