CLINTON, N.C. (WNCN) – A 40-year-old inmate was found dead in his cell Sunday at the Sampson County Detention Center.
Anthony Ladon Chavious, of Goldsboro, was found around 4:45 p.m. in his cell by an officer. Emergency medical responders were called but were unable to revive Chavious.
He was serving time under a child support charge. He was admitted to the Detention Center on Feb. 10, under a $500 cash bond.
The Sampson County Medical Examiner is working to determine the cause of Chavious’ death.
The SBI is not expected to investigate the death as there are no signs of foul play or indicators of self-injury, officials said.
The Sampson County Sheriff’s Office is investigating, which is standard procedure for an inmate death.
