Motorcyclist hits car head-on while eluding NC Highway Patrol

FUQUAY VARINA, N.C. (WNCN) – A motorcyclist crashed his vehicle in Fuquay Varina Tuesday while attempted to elude a North Carolina Highway partrolman.

Around 2 p.m., a trooper attempted to stop the operator of a Suzuki motorcycle who was traveling 75 miles per hour in a 45 miles per hour zone on N.C. 42 in Wake County.

The motorcyclist, identified as Scottie Lee Horne, 34, of Willow Spring, did not stop for the trooper and drove in the direction of Fuquay Varina.

Horne then hit a Honda head-on while traveling in the south within the northbound lane of U.S. 401 near Hilltop Road.

The driver of the Honda, Thomas Nelson, 31, was not injured.

Horne has been charged with:

  • Driving while impaired
  • Driving while license revoked
  • Speeding
  • Reckless driving
  • Fictitious license plate
  • No insurance
  • Failure to register vehicle
  • Driving wrong way on dual lane highway
  • Felony speed to elude arrest

Horne was released from WakeMed and taken to the Wake County Detention Center for processing.
