‘Anonymous shopping cart guy’ helps police catch fleeing suspect in supermarket

PORTLAND, Ore. (KOIN) — An anonymous shopper used his cart to help Portland, Oregon police catch a fleeing suspect inside a Fred Meyer store on Feb. 18.

That night around 7:15 p.m., Cody Jaye Lindsay burst into the store with police chasing him. Surveillance video captured the chase and the shopping cart takedown.

Lindsay was initially sought by the Portland Police Bureau for jaywalking across SE 82nd near Foster and nearly being hit by several cars. When he was caught inside the store, he was then arrested for disorderly conduct, interfering with a peace officer and a parole violation.

The suspect was not injured, police said. The shopper calmly picked up his groceries and continued shopping.
