URBANNA, Va. (WAVY) — Two people are unaccounted for in a massive fire that broke out at the Dozier Yachting Center Marina in Urbanna, Virginia, according to the U.S. Coast Guard.
Petty Officer 3rd Class Joshua Canup told WAVY-TV from Norfolk the people reportedly live in boats on the marina.
Major M.E. Sampson with Middlesex County Sheriff’s Office says the fire was called in at 4:30 a.m. The fire is reportedly under control.
Nearly 50 boats have been affected in the fire. Several local and state agencies, including the Coast Guard, have responded to the scene.
U.S. Coast Guard spokesman Nick Camemi says they are on the scene to watch for any spillage of chemicals. Coast Guard crews have been on the scene since 5 a.m., and have been moving boats out of the way.
Sampson says that a vessel broke loose during the fire, but it was contained. He also says crews have prevented the fire from affecting nearby condos.
The cause of the fire is under investigation.
