NEW BERN, N.C. (WNCT) – Deputies charged a Kinston woman with numerous counts of identity theft.
25-year-old Megan Johnson was charged with 22 counts of felony identity theft, 22 counts felony obtaining property by false pretense, 2 counts access computer network – release fraud program less than $1,000, and financial card theft.
The crimes allegedly took place between August 17 and November 23, 2015.
The Craven County Sheriff’s Office received a report in December about someone’s credit card number being stolen and the card number being used to apply funds to an inmate’s JPAY account who is in the North Carolina Department of Corrections.
Investigators determined Johnson was putting money on an account that belonged to her boyfriend.
Johnson was held on a $50,000 secured bond.
