Highway patrol chase ends when suspect crashes in Wake County

WAKE FOREST, N.C. (WNCN) – A high-speed chase Tuesday morning involving the North Carolina Highway Patrol ended in a crash on Capital Boulevard.

A preliminary investigation revealed that shortly before 10 a.m. Tuesday, a white 2016 Dodge Charger was observed speeding by a trooper. Highway Patrol said the Charger was traveling 82 mph in a 65 mph zone on Interstate 85.

Highway Patrol said a pursuit was initiated and continued into Wake County. The suspect entered a Food Lion parking near Capital Boulevard where troopers were able to stop the suspect’s vehicle.

The suspect was identified at Darryl Aaron White, 23, of Vickers Avenue in Durham.

White was taken into custody and charged with:

  • Felony speeding to elude
  • Felony possession of a motor vehicle
  • Felony assault with a motor vehicle
  • 82 mph in a 65 mph zone
  • Careless and reckless driving
  • Driving with a suspended license

No other information was released.
