GREENSBORO, N.C. – Greensboro police are following leads about a missing 19-year-old woman after several people contacted police about a post on Instagram possibly related to the woman’s disappearance.
Tyarra Williams, 19, was last seen around 8:30 p.m. on Jan. 7 near her apartment complex in Greensboro.
WFMY reported that a user on Instagram claimed he overheard two people talking about Williams and though one of them might know where she was. WFMY reported that Greensboro police interviewed the man and ruled out his story.
“They reached out to our Crime Stoppers line, they reached out to our communications line, they reached out directly to the police department we also had people reach out to us via Facebook to send that same post to our Facebook page,” Captain Mike Richey told WFMY.
The Instagram post mentioned a possible location, but once again, police ruled it out.
“We did track down the person who posted it, it was not a hoax or anything along those lines, it’s just that he heard some unrelated conversations that we were able to figure out had nothing to do with the Tyarra Williams case,” Richey told WFMY.
Williams was last seen wearing dark blue jeans, a pink T-shirt, a black North Face jacket and a royal blue toboggan, police said.
Anyone with information about Williams’ whereabouts or information that can help investigators is asked to call Crime Stoppers at 336-373-100 or text the tip to 274637 using keyword badboyz.
