HICKORY, N.C. (WBTV) – A second victim from a Wednesday shooting at a Hickory McDonald’s has died, according to police.
Police say Cody Williams Watts, 28, died Friday afternoon in the hospital. Richelle Lail, 22, was shot in the same incident and killed at the Highway 321 fast food restaurant.
Eric Terril Yount, 22, is charged in the shooting and is in jail without bond. Initially, Yount was charged with murder and attempted murder. Now those charges are expected to be upgraded to murder.
The shooting happened just before 6 p.m. Wednesday. Investigators said Lail and Watts were employees at the restaurant and met there Wednesday evening. They said that at some point, Yount showed up and rammed Watts’ truck with his vehicle.
Deputies said Lail reportedly confronted Yount and they began arguing. Yount then shot and killed Lail and shot into Watts’ truck, hitting him several times.
When law enforcement arrived, Lail was found dead on the ground. Watts was found sitting in a car with gunshot wounds.
Both cases are expected to be heard on Monday.
