MOUNT PLEASANT, N.C. (WBTV) – Cabarrus County School officials said a message was sent to Mount Pleasant Elementary School parents Friday about a child bringing a gun to school.
The district says students told the teacher about their classmate having a gun at school. The teacher then called the school resource officer and school administration and the students were removed from the classroom.
In a statement, the district said student safety is a priority and they are thankful no one was hurt.
“While today’s events are unsettling, we will use this situation as a teachable moment to reinforce the importance of speaking up when there is a dangerous situation.”
Counselors will be available on Monday to talk to students.
