CHAPEL HILL, N.C. (WNCN) – The family of a 13-year-old boy who recently underwent a heart transplant is asking for prayers for their son.
Albert Jeffries IV, of Burlington and known as Alj by his family, underwent a heart transplant last week. Jeffries and his mother, Tina Turner, learned last Wednesday that he was getting a new heart.
The surgery was successful, but Turner posted an update on the Teamalj fighting heart disease Facebook page asking for prayers after speaking to doctors about Alj’s condition.
“Alj[‘s] kidney function has gotten worse and he’s retaining fluid and swelling, but this sometimes comes with the transplanted organ. They are giving him nitrous oxide to help open pathways in his lungs, so that he can breath[e] more comfortable,” Turner posted on Facebook.
You can follow Alj’s recovery here.
Turner also posted on Facebook that a new crowdfunding page was created for a #teamlj foundation to help other families with children who need organ transplants. You can donate to the foundation here.
