Durham Police Officer D.M. Yuengling was arrested Thursday on two counts of obtaining property by false pretense.
Yuengling, 24, is accused of entering into a contractual agreement to sublet his apartment, receiving payment from the person subletting the apartment, but not paying that money to the rental company.
In addition, Yuengling signed a contract to work as a courtesy officer at the apartment complex. As the complex’s courtesy officer, Yuengling signed a contract agreeing to live in an apartment on the premises in exchange for discounted rent.
Instead, he allegedly sublet the apartment to another person and lived elsewhere. He is charged with taking $450 in discounted rent for the courtesy officer position when he did not comply with the agreement for the position.
Yuengling joined the Durham Police Department in January 2014 and is assigned to the Uniform Patrol Bureau. He is currently on administrative leave without pay.
The case is being investigated by the Durham Police Department’s Fraud Unit and Professional Standards Division.
