GREENVILLE, S.C. (WSPA) – A police officer in Greenville, South Carolina, was shot and killed Friday afternoon.
It happened around 12:30 p.m. in the 300 block of Laurens Road.
The police chief told WSPA officers were serving a warrant on a self-admitted gang member.
The suspect ran from them down Rebecca Strett and opened fire, hitting the officer several times.
The officer later died at Greenville Memorial Hospital.
The officer’s name was not immediately released.
Police said the suspect later shot and killed himself on Swamp Rabbit Trail.
Police describe the officer killed as dedicated. The officer worked on gang activity.
