WILMINGTON, N.C. (WECT) – A Wilmington man is facing a charge of assault with a deadly weapon on a government official after allegedly dragging a Brunswick County deputy alongside his truck on Thursday.

Dennis Edward Baxley, 51, also faces felony charges of restraint and attempting to flee/elude arrest with a motor vehicle, two misdemeanor counts of resisting an officer and a misdemeanor charge of assault on a female. He was booked under a $30,000 bond.

According to warrants, Baxley restrained a female and transported her from New Hanover County to Brunswick County in a Ford F-150. He then allegedly tried to elude a pursuing patrolman by speeding down Mt. Misery Road and Walker Street.
