FAYETTEVILLE, N.C. (WNCN) — A couple — including the victim’s wife — was charged Friday in the 2010 stabbing death of a man the pair worked with at the Goodyear plant near Fayetteville, police say.
Detectives with the Fayetteville Police Department’s Cold Case Homicide Unit arrested Denise Regina Green, age 44, and Anthony Robert Hernandez, age 34, both of the 2700 block of Gressitt Point Lane on Friday in connection with the 2010 homicide of Kenneth Green.
The pair who were arrested Friday were involved in an “extra-marital affair,” according to police.
Kenneth Green — who was married to Denise Regina Green — was discovered dead on May 31, 2010 at approximately 12:28 a.m. when Fayetteville Police responded to 1807 Catawba Road to a shooting investigation, according to Fayetteville Police.
Upon arrival, Officers found Kenneth Green deceased, lying face down underneath his truck with multiple stab wounds and a gunshot wound.
Homicide detectives discovered that the victim’s cell phone and wallet had been stolen. Kenneth Green worked at Goodyear Tire Company.
Early in the investigation, detectives learned that an Anthony Hernandez was having an extra marital affair with the victim’s wife, Denise Green, police said.
Both Hernandez and Denise worked with the victim at Goodyear. Hernandez was charged with the victim’s murder on Oct. 8, 2010.
However, the case was dismissed in 2013 by the Cumberland County District Attorney’s Office due to lack of evidence, but leaving it available to charge again if additional evidence was found, police said.
“FPD’s Homicide Detectives kept working the case and were able to obtain additional evidence which was presented to the Cumberland County District Attorney Office. The newly found evidence confirmed the involvement of Anthony Hernandez and the victim’s wife Denise Green,” said Officer A. Kincade, spokesman for Fayetteville Police.
On Friday, the Cumberland County DA’s Office indicted Denise Green and Anthony Hernandez for First Degree Murder, Conspiracy to Commit Murder, Robbery with a Dangerous Weapon and Conspiracy to Commit Robbery with a Dangerous Weapon.
At approximately 8 p.m. Friday homicide detectives arrested Denise Green and Anthony Hernandez at Goodyear Tire Company with the assistance of the Cumberland County Sheriff’s Office.
Denise Regina Green and Anthony Robert Hernandez were processed into the Cumberland County Detention Center where they are currently being held without bond.
