Duke’s Grayson Allen doesn’t think he looks like Ted Cruz; Internet disagrees

PROVIDENCE, R.I. (WNCN) — According to the Internet, Duke Guard Grayson Allen could be the son of Republican presidential candidate Ted Cruz.

College basketball fans pointed out the resemblance during last year’s NCAA tournament when Allen emerged as a key player on Duke’s run to the national championship. The comparison has been brought back up this year as the NCAA tournament gets underway and Ted Cruz rises in popularity as he pursues the republican presidential nominee.

During both of Duke’s games in the opening rounds of the NCAA tournament, fans chanted “Ted Cruz!” while Allen was shooting free throws.

“I heard them chanting something but I couldn’t make it out.” Allen said in a post-game interview after beating Yale on Saturday. “I’m not surprised it was Ted Cruz though, I get that a lot.”

When asked what he thinks about the comparisons, Allen said, “I don’t see it, but everyone else does so I guess I can’t say it’s not true.”

Allen says Ted Cruz isn’t his only doppelgänger out there, he claims people have compared him to about 200 other people on Twitter.

“I don’t really see [the resemblance] with any of them,” said Allen. “And I ask my parents and they don’t see it either. The only person I think I look like is my dad, we’re pretty identical.”

Allen’s teammates say they find it amusing that their leading scorer has so many look-a-likes.

“He shows us every time there’s a new one posted on Twitter,” said Guard Matt Jones. “We think they’re pretty funny.”
