RALEIGH, N.C. (WNCN) — Tuesday night, members of the Raleigh Police Department spoke with people at a barbershop in an effort to build stronger connections with the community.
The community sponsored event at The Bar Ber Shop, a barbershop along New Bern Avenue, gave people the chance to break down any communication barriers between police and people.
Raleigh Police Chief Cassandra Deck Brown, City Councilmen Corey Branch, several officers, and more than a dozen community members were in attendance.

Many of the questions revolved around how to break down misconceptions of law enforcement and build trust back between police and the community
Chief Deck Brown, says a barber shop is the perfect atmosphere to do this.
“Open dialogue, honesty, transparency, conversation; and then you build on that. It has the opportunity to become many things. But this is where it starts. This is how it starts,” she said.
Organizers say the goal is to continue having these talks in the future. They want community involvement to grow.
