Man in wheelchair dies after being hit by car in Raleigh, police say

RALEIGH, N.C. (WNCN) — A man in a wheelchair died after he was hit by a car on Sunday morning, Raleigh Police say.

Just before 11:20 a.m. Sunday, Raleigh Police Department officers were dispatched to a collision between a motor vehicle and a pedestrian in a wheelchair, officials said.

The pedestrian, Harold Smith, 75, was transported to WakeMed, where he later died, Raleigh Police said in a press release.

The collision, which occurred near the intersection of Raleigh and Martin Luther King boulevards, remains under investigation and no charges have been filed at this point, according to police.

A police report released by Raleigh Police indicated that Smith was not crossing the street at a crosswalk.
