BOGUE INLET, N.C. (WNCT) – A father and his teenage daughter are safe thanks to the actions of a U.S. Coast Guard crew based at Emerald Isle.
A report came in on Monday afternoon about the two needing help just one mile east of Bogue Inlet at Emerald Isle.
The Coast Guard says the girl, a 16-year-old, was on a jet ski that stopped working and her 53-year-old father was in the water.
Less than an hour after the call came in, the response crew brought both of them in safely. The crew took the jet ski in tow and no one was injured.
The Coast Guard says the two were wearing life-jackets and wet suits and credit those items with helping them withstand the cold.
“We were glad to find both individuals wearing lifejackets and wetsuits,” said Petty Officer 3rd Class Tyler McGuinness, coxswain during the rescue. “Because of this, they had increased chances of withstanding the cold elements and saving their energy until we could arrive.”
