Vehicle flips several times, pinning Apex woman underneath

BLANDS, N.C. (WNCN) – A 55-year-old woman was seriously injured in a vehicle crash early Wednesday morning on N.C. 751 near Lassiter Homestead Road in Chatham County.

Highway Patrol responded to a crash around 4 a.m. on N.C. 751 in Blands just outside of Chapel Hill.

Highway Patrol said a Ford Mustang, driven by Deborah Perkinson Johnson, 55, of Apex, was speeding when she entered a curve and lost control.

The vehicle traveled off the roadway and overturned several times. Highway Patrol Johnson was ejected from the vehicle during the crash. The vehicle then landed upright, pinning her underneath the vehicle.

Johnson was taken to UNC Hospitals with serious injuries.

Highway Patrol said speed was the contributing factor in the crash. Johnson was also not wearing a seat belt at the time.

Johnson was charged with traveling left of center, exceeding a safe speed, and failing to wear a seat belt.
