FAYETTEVILLE, N.C. (WNCN) – The Fayetteville Police are investigating a sexual assault that occurred around midnight on Monday in the area of the Cain Road and Pamalee Drive.

Police said a woman was walking on the sidewalk along Cain Road when the suspect approached her from behind, pulled her to the ground, and sexually assaulted her.  Police said the man had a strong body odor and the smell of alcohol about him.

The victim was able to give investigators a description of the suspect’s vehicle.

  • Dark Green, possibly family van
  • No back seats
  • Black pine tree car freshener hanging from rear view mirror
  • Food and trash on the dash board
  • Trash in the back of the van
  • A black comforter was on the floor
  • No carpet in the back of the van
  • Metal back floor

Detectives with the Special Victims Unit of the Fayetteville Police Department are investigating.
