2 critically hurt after escaping mobile home fire in Fayetteville

FAYETTEVILLE, N.C. (WNCN) – Two people were able to escape from a fire at their home on the 9300 block of Van Dyke Place in Fayetteville Tuesday morning.

The Fayetteville Fire Department responded to a mobile home fire at 9397 Van Dyke Place off Rim Road in the Sunset Park Community around 5:40 a.m. Tuesday.

Heavy smoke and fire were visible as crews arrived to the scene.

Fire officials said two people were in the mobile home at the time of the fire but woke up due to the smoke detector. The fire quickly spread through the mobile home, trapping the two adults in the bedroom. The two people were able to escape from the bedroom window.

Both people received injuries from the fire, smoke and the escape. Both were taken to Cape Fear Valley Medical Center and transferred to the Burn Center at UNC-Chapel Hill where they are both listed in critical condition.

The cause of the fire remains under investigation. The home is considered a total loss and damages are estimated at $15,000.
