CHARLOTTE, N.C. (WBTV) – An argument in a car reportedly sparked a deadly crash that killed the driver and a six-year-old child in Charlotte.
According to police, the vehicle was driving along the 7500 block of East Independence Boulevard Monday night around 8:55 p.m. That’s when the driver and passenger in the car reportedly began to argue and the passenger grabbed the wheel.
That forced the 1999 Toyota Solara to suddenly hit a guardrail and overturn, police say.
The passenger, 33-year-old Crystal Marie Day, was taken to the hospital with serious injuries. Thirty-three-year-old Vanessa Annette Adams, the driver, was killed.
Day’s 6-year-old old son Gianni Espinoza was also killed in the crash.
Police say Day and Adams were not wearing seat belts and Espinoza was not properly restrained in a child seat,
According to police, Adams was speeding at the time of the crash, but its not clear if alcohol was a contributing factor.
Crystal Marie Day has been charged with two counts of involuntary manslaughter and one count of child neglect.
When she is released from the hospital, she will be transported to the Mecklenburg County Jail.
