Carrboro police car hit while assisting disabled vehicle

CARRBORO, N.C. (WNCN) – A Carrboro police car was hit by a vehicle Wednesday night while it was pulled over assisting a disabled vehicle.

Carrboro police said two officers were helping a disabled vehicle around 8:30 p.m. Wednesday on N.C. 54 when a Mercury Milan struck the back of the patrol car.

A police dog was inside the patrol car at the time of the crash but was not injured. Neither officer was injured.

Two people in the Mercury were transported to UNC Hospitals with unspecified injuries.

Highway Patrol is investigating the wreck.

Police want to remind drivers of North Carolina’s Move Over Law, which is designed to protect first responders and public service workers.
