NC woman killed in domestic assault, police say

WINSTON-SALEM — The Winston-Salem Police Department says 53-year-old Doris Lovell Caldwell died early Thursday morning from injuries suffered during a domestic assault.

Police say officers were called out to a residence at 2321-B Dacian Street at 11 PM Wednesday night after getting a report of a fight inside the home.

Officers found Caldwell and another resident inside the home. She was unresponsive and taken to Wake Forest Baptist Medical Center where she later died.

Detectives say both people were involved in a domestic assault and both were injured.

Winston-Salem Police says the investigation is in the early stages.

This is the fourth homicide of 2016 in Winston-Salem.
