2 NC jailers charged with providing drugs to inmates

NEW BERN, N.C. (WNCT)- The Craven County Sheriff’s Office arrested two Craven County jailers Friday morning.

Ryan Hardison and Joel Rodriguez were arrested and charged with Felony Providing Drugs to Inmates, Felony Conspiracy, Felony Sell/Deliver Schedule III Controlled Substance, Felony Sell/Deliver Schedule VI Controlled Substance and Possession of Controlled Substance on Jail Premises.

Sheriff Monette ordered an internal investigation in reference to illegal contraband in the jail. The investigation revealed criminal violations including the illegal possession of controlled substances in jail.

Both former-jailers were employed for less than a year and placed in the Craven County jail under a $75,000 bond pending a first appearance.
