Fifth person arrested in connection with January Wayne County murder

DUDLEY, N.C. (WNCN) – Authorities in Maryland arrested a fifth suspect wanted in connection with a deadly Jan. 9 shooting in Dudley, Wayne County authorities said.

Carlos Cesar Vasquez Luna, 47, was killed in a shooting at his home on Sleepy Creek Road in on Jan. 9. A second person, Alfredo Garcias, 25, was injured in the shooting.

During an investigation, Wayne County authorities learned that five suspects were involved in the incident.

Four suspects had previously been arrested, but Billy Renaldo Hamm, 44, was still on the run.

Hamm was arrested by Montgomery County Police in Silver Spring, Maryland on April 12.

Hamm initially gave a false name to Maryland authorities while they were investigating a trespassing allegation at a business. Hamm was later identified by his fingerprint.

In addition to several charges in Maryland, he was charged on North Carolina warrants for first-degree murder, attempted first-degree murder, first-degree burglary, and two counts of attempted robbery with a dangerous weapon.

Deputies arrested Jennele Le Howard Wall, 35, on Jan. 13 and charged her with first-degree murder, attempted first-degree murder, attempted armed robbery and first-degree burglary in connection with the case. She was placed in the Wayne County Detention Center without bail.

On Jan. 18, a second suspect in the case turned himself into authorities. Montrell Demontrio Allen, 41, was charged with first-degree burglary, two counts of attempted armed robbery with a dangerous weapon. He was placed in the Wayne County Detention Center under a $300,000 secured bond.

On Feb. 1, a third suspect turned himself into authorities after learning warrants had been issued for his arrest. Darius Lamar Chestnut, 35, was charged with first-degree burglary and two counts of attempted robbery with a dangerous weapon. He was placed in in the Wayne County Detention Center under a $300,000 secured bond.

A fourth suspect, Jerry Aundrey Parks, 41, was arrested at the Wayne County Detention Center after being placed in the detention center on unrelated charges filed by the Goldsboro Police Department.

Parks was charged with first-degree murder, attempted first-degree murder, first-degree burglary and two counts of attempted robbery with a dangerous weapon. He was being held without bond.
