SC man threatened to break knees of woman during sexual assault, report says

The Sumter County Sheriff's Office says 25-year-old Joe Edward Cockerill sexually assaulted and physically attacked a 28-year-old woman.

SUMTER, SC (WBTW) – A Sumter man was arrested after he sexually assaulted a woman Monday at a home on Cox Road, deputies say.

Public Information Officer Ken Bell for Sumter County Sheriff’s Office says 25-year-old Joe Edward Cockerill sexually assaulted and physically attacked a 28-year-old woman. The arrest warrant for Cockerill says the man punched the victim in the face, stomach and numerous other areas of her body.

In addition, the warrants note that Cockerill broke a leg off of a coffee table and threatened to break both of the victim’s knees with it.

Cockerill is charged with criminal sexual conduct third degree and domestic violence of a high and aggravated nature.
