Five Kmarts in North Carolina are closing as part of a broad move by the troubled Sears Holdings, the company announced Friday.

Closing in North Carolina are Kmarts in Rocky Mount, Lumberton, Pineville, Brevard and Gastonia.

The company is closing 68 Kmarts and 10 Sears stores.

“The decision to close stores is a difficult but necessary step as we take aggressive actions to strengthen our company, fund our transformation and restore Sears Holdings to profitability,” said Sears Holdings CEO Edward Lampert in a statement.
