NC man arrested for stabbing girlfriend during argument

FAYETTEVILLE, N.C. (WNCN) – A 35-year-old man has been arrested after Fayetteville police said he stabbed his girlfriend April 1 during an argument.

Jonathan Mitchel Wright, of the 2600 block of Mellwood Drive, was arrested Friday thanks to a CrimeStoppers tip, police said. He was taken into custody without incident.

Wright has been charged with attempted first-degree murder and assault with a deadly weapon with intent to kill/inflicting serious injury.

The stabbing occurred around 1 p.m. at the Red Roof Inn located at 3136 Bordeaux Park Drive. The incident was reported until about 8:45 p.m. that night.

The 31-year-old victim was transported to Cape Fear Valley Medical Center with several stab wounds to her shoulders and chest, one of which caused a collapsed lung, police said.

Wright is being held at the Cumberland County Detention Center on a $250,000 secured bond.
