MONROE, N.C. (WBTV) – A police chase that began in Chesterfield County Tuesday ended with three people going to jail in Union County.
The incident began in the Jefferson area of Chesterfield County when a deputy got behind a Mercedes and the plates came back as stolen from Charlotte.
The deputy then followed the vehicle to the North Carolina state line where the chase was picked up by Union County deputies and troopers with the North Carolina Highway Patrol.
During the chase, officials said, the vehicle reached speeds of over 80 mph.
About 17 minutes in, the Mercedes ran into a ditch on Highway 601 and three people began running away on foot. Multiple K9 officers were then able to track them down and all three were taken into custody.
Deputies said the driver of the car had eight warrants for his arrest, but did not give further details about his charges.
