HIGH POINT, N.C. — The man charged for assaulting and raping a Triad student is facing more charges.
High Point Police arrested Tavio Whitehead, 18, for assaulting a girl and injury to personal property April 17. The alleged incident happened at High Point Central High School.
Since he is a registered sex offender, he’s not allowed on school grounds. Saturday, High Point Police charged Whitehead with Sex Offender Violation – Unlawfully on the premises of an Educational Institution.
This isn’t Whitehead’s first run in at the school. WFMY News 2 reported in September that Whitehead was accused of attacking and raping a 14-year-old girl at the high school.
WFMY News 2 talked to Guilford County School Board Member, Ed Price in September. He told us, Whitehead was a senior at Central, who recently moved to the area. Price said the female victim was a freshman or sophomore. Whitehead allegedly attacked and raped the victim, also a High Point student, on an elevated walkway around 4 p.m.
Price said a staff member saw the attack and moved quickly to intervene. The victim was taken to an area hospital, treated and released.
Tavio Whitehead was charged with Assault by Strangulation and 1 count of First Degree Forcible Rape in that case.
However, according to the state’s sex offender website, Whitehead was convicted on March 31, 2016 for sexual battery in that case. He spent 60 days in jail and registered as a sex offender April 5.
He’s now back in jail on a $75,000 dollar bond.
