FAYETTEVILLE, N.C. (WNCN) — A Fayetteville pair has now been charged with murder after their neighbor — who was shot in the head — has died nearly a week after the shooting, police say.
Fayetteville Police said that they were told Monday night that Jasper Artis was removed from life support and has died as a result of his injuries.
Artis, age 52, was shot last Wednesday outside the Time Savor gas station at 5555 Murchison Road.
Investigators say an ongoing dispute was the motive behind the shooting.
Fayetteville Police said Lee Otis Evans, 46, and Sherelle Marie Johnson, 27, were neighbors of Artis on the 4900 block of Schmidt Street in Fayetteville.
After Artis died, police obtained warrants charging both Evans and Sherelle Marie Johnson with First Degree Murder and Conspiracy to Commit First Degree Murder.
Detectives have also arrested Shahidah Shakira Burrows, age 39, and Kenneth Earl Rowe Jr., 34, both of the 200 block of Gertrude Street, charging each with Felony Accessory After the Fact.
Burrows’ and Rowe’s charges stem from giving false information to detectives and delaying the detection and arrest of Evans and Johnson, in connection with this incident, police said.
Burrows and Rowe were apprehended at their residence, without incident, by FPD detectives.
Burrows and Rowe were processed at the Cumberland County Detention Center where bond was set at $10,000 secured for each.
Evans and Johnson at the Cumberland County Detention Center where both remain without bond.
