MOREHEAD CITY, N.C. (WNCT) — A man is facing criminal charges in Morehead City after first being suspected of trying to lure children with candy, according to the county district attorney’s office.
WNCT learned the charges are not related to those allegations.
Terry Franklin Garner was arrested on Wednesday morning by Morehead City Police and is facing a possession of drugs and a motor vehicle violation charge.
Garner’s arrest came after man a the Medical Park area was attempting to lure children into his a car on Saturday.
Officials in Morehead City were alerted of this man when the children ran to their guardians, and proceeded to call the authorities.
“We commend these young children who did the correct thing in getting their guardians instead of going up to the vehicle,” Morehead City Police said in a statement.
The man drives a black, Buick or Ford, 4-door car with a loud muffler and a red stripe on the bottom. He is a white male, approximately in his 40-50’s. He has a beard, long-brownish, grayish hair and wears a bandanna.
Police is attempting to identify this suspect. If you see this vehicle, know who he is, or happen to see him in your area, please call the police department immediately.
Authorities are asking parents and guardians to remind your children about the dangers of talking to strangers and to get an adult if someone tries to offer them candy or a pet from a vehicle.
Garner is booked at the Carteret County Detention Center under a $100,000 secured bond.
His first appearance is scheduled for Thursday.
