Person hit by NC train in Mebane, officials say

MEBANE, N.C. (WNCN) — A person was hit by a train in Mebane on Saturday afternoon, officials said.

Amtrak Train 74, which travels daily between Charlotte and Raleigh, was carrying 67 passengers when the person was hit, said Kimberly Woods, a spokeswoman for Amtrak.

There are no reported injuries to passengers or crew members to the train, which is called The Piedmont.   The train was reported delayed just after 3 p.m.

The train resumed service around 4:15 p.m.

Local authorities are investigating the incident. Amtrak is cooperating with the investigation.

There is no word on the condition of the person who was hit.
