LILLINGTON, N.C. (WNCN) — A woman and her two young children died in a Lillington murder-suicide shooting Friday night, Harnett County authorities announced Monday.
At 4 p.m. Friday, Harnett County deputies checked on the occupants of a home at 98 Cherry Hill Drive in Lillington after a resident called raising concerns.
The deputies discovered three people dead inside the home.
On Saturday, the Sheriff’s Office identified the bodies as Danielle Falls Biggs, 35, Benjamin Biggs, 3, and 21-month-old Gwendolyn Biggs.
“The Chief Medical Examiner’s Office reports that the two children were murdered and died as a result of gunshot wounds. The mother’s death was ruled a suicide and she died as a result of a gunshot wound,” deputies said a statement on Monday.
The Biggs’ husband is currently on active duty in the U.S. Armed Forces and was not in the country at the time of the incident, deputies said.
Danielle Biggs was found inside the home on the downstairs level with the family’s dog, officials said.
The family dog was also shot to death.
The two children were found in their bed upstairs in their room.
