PINEBLUFF, N.C. (WNCN) — A young man was airlifted to an area hospital after a head-on crash in Moore County on Monday evening, officials said.
The incident injured two people when a Nissan Maxima and a Ford Tempo collided just before 8:30 p.m. on US Highway 1 near Baltimore Avenue in the Pinebluff area.
A 20-year-old man was transported from the crash scene by ambulance to the ball field on Current Street in Pinebluff where a landing zone had been setup, the Aberdeen Times reported.
A helicopter from UNC Chapel Hill landed and transported the victim to a Trauma Center for treatment.
A second person was transported from the accident by ambulance to FirstHealth Moore Regional Hospital with injuries that were reported to be not life threatening.
Both of the southbound lanes of US Highway 1 were temporarily closed to traffic while the injured were assisted and the roadway cleared of debris.
