Moore County sheriff to retire May 31

CARTHAGE, N.C. (WNCN) – Moore County Sheriff Neil Godfrey announced Wednesday he plans to retire May 31.

“I will celebrate my 65th birthday later this month. I have devoted approximately 43 years of my life in law enforcement serving the citizens of Moore County and the State of North Carolina,” Godfrey said in a release.

He said the move will allow more time with his family and church.

“It has been a true honor and privilege for me to serve the citizens of Moore County as their Sheriff. I sincerely appreciate the support and encouragement that I have received from everyone,” he said.

Godfrey’s replacement has not been announced.
