PINETOPS, N.C. (WNCN) — A 71-year-old woman who was mowing her yard was killed after an SUV crashed into her in Edgecomb County on Tuesday.
The incident happened around 5:30 p.m. when a 2010 Ford Focus sport utility vehicle was traveling south on NC 111 just north of Pinetops, said Lt. Jeff Gordon of the NC Highway Patrol.
The SUV driver drifted left of center, traveled onto the left shoulder and hit a mailbox, Gordon said.
The SUV then hit Lillie Parker Sherrod, was mowing her yard in the 3300 block of N.C. 111, about 2.6 miles north of Pinetops.
The driver of the SUV, a 40-year-old woman from Tarboro, has not been charged, but Troopers are continuing their investigation and will confer with the Edgecombe County District Attorney’s office about any possible charges.
