WENDELL, N.C. (WNCN) – Six people, including four students, were taken to the hospital Wednesday morning after two Wake County School buses were involved in a crash in Wendell.
Authorities received a call about the wreck shortly after 6:30 a.m. Wednesday.
Lisa Luten with Wake County Schools said the two bus drivers were being transported to the hospital. Luten said in addition to the two drivers, four students were taken to the hospital.
WakeMed said the hospital is treating two adults and one child. Highway Patrol said the drivers suffered minor injuries.
Luten said three students were taken to the hospital by their parents. The fourth student accompanied her mother, who was one of the drivers, to the hospital. All other students were put on a separate bus and taken to East Wake High School.
The Highway Patrol said the driver of bus 1253, Casual Davidita Tabron, failed to yield at a stop sign and collided with bus 1580, driven by Lisa Carmelita McLean. One passenger on bus 1580 was taken to WakeMed, troopers confirmed. No passengers on bus 1253 were injured.
Wendell Boulevard was blocked as crews investigated the crash.
Tabron was charged with failing to yield the right of way.
McLean was hired Sept. 23, 1996, for Knightdale High School and earns $16.74 an hour.
Tabron was hired Feb. 24, 2014, for East Wake High and earns $12.25 per hour. Court documents show Tabron was issued other citations, including speeding and allowing an unlicensed minor to drive.
