CHARLOTTE, N.C. (WBTV) – Detectives in Charlotte arrested a man they say sexually assaulted a woman at knifepoint Wednesday.
Charles Fitzgerald Harris, 44, was charged with six counts of first-degree rape, 11 counts of first-degree sex offense and two counts of first-degree kidnapping.
Around 7 a.m. Wednesday, officers responded to the 1100 block of Polk Street in reference to a domestic disturbance. When they got to the scene they spoke with a child who said that his mother was inside the home being assaulted.
The officers went inside where they say the woman being held down by a man, later identified as Harris. Sexual Assault Detectives were then called to the scene to begin their investigation.
During that investigation, detectives determined that the victim, who had known Harris for two months, asked him to take her and her son to the airport. On the ride to the airport, the report states, Harris pulled over and sexually assaulted the victim at knifepoint.
Harris then reportedly drove the victim and her son to the house on Polk Street where he continued to sexually assault her. The victim’s son was able to call 911.
Harris was taken to police headquarters where he was charged. He was also served unrelated warrants for two counts of assault with a deadly weapon and possession of a firearm by a convicted felon.
