RALEIGH, N.C. (WNCN) – Douglas Elementary in North Raleigh was voted the number one magnet school in the nation by Magnet Schools of America.
Douglas held a pep rally on Friday morning to celebrate.
Principal Derek Burns says Douglas beat out 3,400 other schools around the country for the top spot.
Burns says a committee visited the school several weeks ago when Douglas was announced as a finalist for the award.
In addition to bragging rights, the award also comes with a $5,000 prize.
“We just bought a 3D printer…we are always looking for new and innovative things and making sure these kids have awesome experiences,” Burns said.
