Turtle plows through Florida woman’s windshield

ORLANDO, Fla. (WFLA) — An Orlando woman and a red-eared slider turtle are doing okay after a bizarre encounter that both would probably like to forget.

Now, the woman’s Facebook post about the incident is going viral.

Nicole Marie Bjanes was driving on Interstate-4 in Volusia County around noon on Monday when the turtle came flying through the air and crashed into her windshield, giving her quite the scare.

You might think at first that the turtle was thrown from another vehicle, but that’s not what happened at all.

According to a Florida Highway Patrol report, Bjanes was driving 70 mph in the westbound middle lane of I-4 when a vehicle in front of her hit a turtle. The turtle was thrown into the air and then crashed into the windshield of Bjanes’ 2014 Volkswagon Jetta, leaving a large hole.

The turtle wound up on the dashboard inside Bjanes’ car. She posted a photo of the turtle inside her car and a photo of her smashed windshield along with the caption, “So this happened today! On I-4 he lived and I’m ok just shaken up!!! CRAZY”

Emergency crews responded and treated Bjanes for minor cuts.

As for the turtle, he must’ve had a very hard shell because he survived the high-impact collision. A trooper and a firefighter removed the turtle from Bjanes’ car and released it in nearby pond where the turtle swam away, according to an FHP spokesperson.

Bjanes’ Facebook post about her crazy turtle encounter had more than 2,330 shares as of Friday morning and she received plenty of responses from her friends asking if she’s okay.

“ I really can’t even believe it!!! Thanks for all your concern🙏🏼. I am a lucky girl…. Life is good and sometimes a little crazy….someone is keeping my on my toes and entertained,” she wrote on her Facebook page.
