Traffic alert: Lane shifts in Project Fortify on I-40 in Raleigh

RALEIGH, N.C. (WNCN) – Drivers in Wake County will see some changes in the Fortify Interstate 40 Project as construction crews open newly rebuilt lanes on a nearly 2-mile stretch of I-40 East near Gorman Street in Raleigh.

The changes mean a new traffic pattern, which will have drivers traveling on the inside eastbound lanes from just before Lake Dam Road until they approach Lake Wheeler Road.

Construction crews have been preparing for the move the past several days by putting down layers of asphalt and new lane markings.

Driver can expect lane shifts on I-40 West in the same area in the coming weeks. In June, similar shifts will take place to the inside lanes in both directions at the eastern end of the project by the I-40/440 split.
